Sequoia National Park, established in 1890 as America’s second national park, is a land of giants located in California’s southern Sierra Nevada. It is home to the General Sherman Tree, the largest living tree on Earth by volume, and Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the contiguous United States at 14,505 feet.
My Journey to the Land of Giants: Sequoia National Park
October 2025
There is something magical about Sequoia National Park in the autumn. When I visited in October 2025, I found exactly what I was looking for: crisp mountain air, golden light, and a sense of peace that you just can’t find during the busy summer months.
A Morning with General Sherman
I started my day early, and the morning was biting cold. I bundled up as I headed toward the General Sherman Tree Trail. Because I visited in the off-season, the trail was wonderfully quiet. Walking down into the Giant Forest felt like stepping into a different world.
The hike is a short one-mile loop, and while the walk down is easy, the trek back up definitely woke up my legs! Standing at the base of the General Sherman—the largest tree on Earth—made me feel so small, yet so connected to nature. Having the space to appreciate its massive scale without the usual crowds was an experience I’ll never forget.

Sunny Views at Moro Rock
As the sun climbed higher, the weather shifted beautifully. That morning chill disappeared, and by the afternoon, it was perfectly warm—the kind of weather that makes you want to stay outside forever.
I took advantage of the less-crowded roads and drove out toward Moro Rock. I love a good physical challenge, so I tackled the stone staircase to the summit. Even though it’s a short climb, those 350+ steps get your heart pumping! Reaching the top was the highlight of my trip. The 360-degree views of the Great Western Divide were breathtaking, and the warm afternoon sun made the granite peaks glow.
Reflections
Being from Sacramento, I’ve seen a lot of California, but this trip felt special. The combination of the cool morning mist, the towering sequoias, and the warm afternoon views from the rock reminded me why I love to explore. It was a day of pure, effortless adventure.
